Building information modeling software

Building information modeling (BIM) is a new way of approaching the design and documentation of building projects. Bentley offers BIM solutions for architects, engineers, contractors, owners and operators to design, analyze, build and operate buildings and facilities.

The BIM process coinsists of three stages:

  • Building - the entire lifecycle of the building is considered (design-build/operations)
  • Information - all information about the building and its lifecycle is included
  • Modeling - defining and simulating the building, its delivery, and operation using integrated tools

BIM provides several major advantages over CAD. BIM models and manages not just graphics, but also information – information that allows the automatic generation of drawings and reports, design analysis, schedule simulation, facilities management, and more – ultimately enabling the building team to make better-informed decisions.

BIM supports a distributed team so that people, tools, and tasks can effectively share this information throughout the building lifecycle, thus eliminating data redundancy, data re-entry, data loss, miscommunication, and translation errors.

Generative design software

Designs can be refined by either dynamically modelling and directly manipulating geometry, by applying rules and capturing relationships among building elements, or by defining complex building forms and systems through concisely expressed algorithms.

Rapidly growing worldwide demand for high-performance buildings means the ability to accurately predict energy consumption, CO2 emissions, operating costs, and occupant comfort, is now critical to the success of projects, ranging from the small and simple to the very large and highly complex.

It also means architects, building services engineers, and energy assessors need the right tools to effectively and productively design, analyze, and simulate building energy systems.

Bentley’s building performance software applications, provide the fastest, most powerful, and most accurate simulation and analysis available for building load, plant energy, passive design, and dynamic thermal simulations. Supporting ISO, CIBSE and ASHRAE standards, these industry-leading tools can be used around the world to provide required compliance checking and documentation, such as that mandated by UK part L2, Australia part J, and the US Green Building Council’s LEED program.
