Candidus Prugger - Bendywood® Pliable Solid Hardwood

Although Candidus Prugger is world famous for wooden decorative elements, like corbels, onlays and mouldings for furniture, the company's main product is the pliable Bendywood®.

Candidus Prugger was established in 1969. An Italian company, it has a production facility in the northeast of Italy (Bressanone). It is a privately held company.

PLIABLE SOLID HARDWOOD

Candidus Prugger's Bendywood® is a pliable solid hardwood. European beech, maple, oak and ash are available. The wood can be bent in a dry and cold condition for customized curved wooden applications such as spiral handrails, mouldings for round table-tops and skirting / baseboards for round walls. This innovative product can be bent by hand or by the application of sufficient force.

INTERNATIONALLY RENOWNED BENDABLE HARDWOOD

The first pliable wood product was developed and patented in Germany in 1917. In 1990 Candidus Prugger purchased the pliable wood production facility and moved it to Italy. The pliable wood was branded Bendywood® in 2001.

Candidus Prugger is currently the only producer of Bendywood® pliable wood in the world, continuing its commitment to developing the product and its applications while providing extensive technical support to the professionals that use this material. In 2005 it became an American Institute of Architects (AIA) CES provider. The company has distributors and representatives in USA, UK, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Germany, Japan and Spain.

FLEXIBLE AND VERSATILE SOLID WOOD

Bendywood® has a range of unique benefits. It is highly flexible. It can be bent without the aid of heat or moisture, either by hand or by force (C-clamps, pulleys, ropes, pipe-bender). If you make an error it is easy to re-bend.

Bendywood® also boasts design versatility and flexibility. Bendywood® is solid wood and therefore it can be worked like normal wood and then bent. It is perfect for almost every curved wooden application.

Candidus' Bendywood® has an endless shelf life and it never loses its pliable properties. For this reason it cannot be used for structural purposes.

REDUCED TIME AND LABOUR COSTS

The flexibility of Bendywood® significantly decreases installation time. In most cases, for example, a two-man team can bend and install a Bendywood® handrail for a customized staircase in 40 minutes!

Bendywood® is a 100% solid hardwood of beech, oak, maple or ash. No chemicals are used in the production process so the product is environmentally friendly. The wood structure changes at a microscopic level due to a thermo-mechanical process: the wood, carefully selected at the sawmill, is first steamed and then compressed along the length of about 20%.

RAW BLANKS OR PROFILED MOULDINGS

Bendywood® is available either in raw blanks up to a size of 100mm x 120mm x 2200mm (4in x 43/4in x 86.5in) or in already profiled mouldings for lippings, skirting, baseboards, handrails, or customized profiles ready to be bent up to a length of 6600mm (21.65ft).

Candidus Prugger guarantees a bending radius of ten times the thickness of a non-jointed piece of Bendywood® and twenty times it for a jointed piece.
