Flag-Soprema UK has over 45 years experience of flat-roof waterproofing, the Soprema Group having been founded in 1908. The company now markets one of the most comprehensive ranges of green roof and single-ply PVC / TPO synthetic liner systems. In addition to roof waterproofing, products are manufactured for complex hydraulic and underground applications and swimming pools. The recent addition of Soprema’s products has extended the product offering to include elastomeric membranes for building envelope and civil engineering use, polyurethane and acrylic coatings, polymer modified SBS compounds and a wide range of accessories including flashing, walkway membranes, vapour barriers, vents, timber decking and rooflights. Systems are supported by insurance backed warranties of either 10 or 15 years, and the company has established a Partner Training Academy to focus on the training needs of designers and contractors. The company is an active member of the Single Ply Roofing Association (SPRA), has products with BBA certification and, in its TPO liner, the only product of its type to have a BRE Green Guide A+ rating.

Natural environment roof systems

The comprehensive range of Optigreen extensive and intensive roof systems enables specifiers to create a wide variety of environments while meeting tightly defined performance criteria. Nine systems cover the most important types of installation, including lightweight, pitched, nature, water retention, garden, landscape, public, thermal and economy roof solutions. Where required, indigenous species can be incorporated into the planting specification to achieve optimum bio-diversity. Optigreen systems can be used to enhance the standard of thermal insulation and a building’s overall sustainability and can be linked, for example, to rainwater retention or SUDS systems. Standard plant lists include low growing grasses, herbs and sedums, as well as traditional deciduous and evergreen shrubs and trees. FLAGON TPO and PVC single ply membrane systems

PVC membranes have proved the ideal specification solution for substrates with marked structural movement. For roof waterproofing, vapour permeable FLAGON PVC systems can be either ballasted or fully adhered, with reinforced and un-reinforced choices to accommodate varying traffic and performance requirements. They retain flexibility at low temperatures, and as well as having high mechanical resistance, are rot-proof and resistant to weathering, UV, static and dynamic puncturing, root growth and micro-organisms. In particular, they are highly adaptable to structural movements. Surface colours may be chosen to RAL standard.

FLAGON TPO systems are a new generation of non-toxic, synthetic membranes made using an innovative formulation of EPR (ethylene propylene rubber) modified polyolefin. Their extreme flexibility is highly conducive to welding while TPO membranes are highly adaptable to structural movements, are dimensionally stabile and resistant to puncturing. In the same way as PVC systems, they are resistant to weathering and UV, as well as growth of roots and micro-organisms. Rot-proof and chemical resistant, they are compatible with most insulation panel types and oxidised bitumen. All have a life expectancy in excess of 25 years.

Waterproofing membranes and systems

In addition to these systems Soprema systems include Sopralene High Performance Elastomeric Membranes, Alsan Polyurethane and Acrylic and the Duoflex structural waterproofing system. This provides a durable, flexible, lightweight and self healing monolithic barrier to the transmission of water and vapour for the lifetime of a structure. Duoflex is an environmentally sustainable formulation of polymer modified bitumen, synthetic rubbers and reinforcements, the manufacturing process having minimal impact on the environment. Suitable for application in temperatures as low as -15°C, it releases no toxic gasses or harmful mutagens, and contains no VOCs (volatile organic compounds).
