On November 27, 2006, Icynene, manufacturer of The Icynene Insulation
System®, celebrated its 20th anniversary. In the past two decades, the company has grown to
become a major contender in the building and renovation market, offering the Icynene® leading
soft-foam insulation and air barrier system. Rather than celebrate this milestone with candles on a
cake, the company highlighted the most significant projects featuring Icynene in the last 20
years.
- RCMP Northern Community Offices (Whale Cove, Chersterfield Inslet and
Kugaruukare, NT): To curb the high cost of heating the Royal Canadian Mounted Police
(RCMP) offices in these Arctic communities, Icynene was installed in the walls, ceilings
and floors - delivering ideal R-value and optimal air-sealing in one step.
- Pennsylvania State University, Hershey Campus (Hershey, PA) After failed attempts
to address air leakage and condensation problems with different types of insulation, the
university's offices are now comfortable to work in, thanks to Icynene.
- Villa Vuoto (Pittsburg, PA) The architect / homeowner chose Icynene to satisfy both
the aesthetic and functional requirements of this unique dwelling.
- The Built Green Home at Suncadia (Seattle, WA) The builder selected Icynene for
this custom home, winner of the 2006 Best In American Living Award.
- Scarano & Associates Architect's Office (Brooklyn, NY) Situated on top of a 100-year-old
building with skyline views of New York City, architect firm Scarano & Associates
selected Icynene to alleviate concerns with disruptive noise levels, structural durability
and energy efficiency.
- Isbell School (Frisco, TX) Icynene is one of the high performance features in this
elementary school which now provides an ideal environment for young minds to grow.
- Gilman Ordway Building (Falmouth, MA) Incorporating Icynene as part of its
environmentally-intelligent design, the Gilman Ordway Building at the Woods Hole
Research Center was selected as one of the Top Ten Green Projects by the American
Institute of Architects (AIA) and its committee on the Environment (COTE).
- Yale University Building Project 2004 (New Haven, CT) Challenged with creating
accessible housing for lower-income families, students of the Masters of Architecture
program incorporated Icynene into their annual Building Project.
- 2006 Southern Building Show New CUSTOM Home & Renew CUSTOM Home
(Atlanta, GA) These show homes demonstrate the benefits of Icynene installed in new
and remodeled custom projects, including a conditioned attic application.
- Bob Vila's dotCOM dreamHOME Project (Las Vegas, NV) As the insulation of the
future, Icynene was the perfect fit for this first-of-its-kind experiment which featured
the design and construction of a home online, from concept to completion.
- Science House, Science Museum of Minnesota (St. Paul, MN) Icynene was specified
to be sprayed in the walls and ceilings of this zero emissions building, neither contains
nor generates ozone-depleting chemicals.
- Castcon-Stone, Inc. (Saxonburg, PA) Constructed on a designated Brownfield site, this
state-of-the-art precast concrete manufacturing facility was revitalized to LEED green
building standards by incorporating sustainable technologies including Icynene.
- American Lung Association 'Health House' (Minneapolis, MN) The builder and
homeowner chose Icynene to address possible sources of indoor pollution such as
excessive moisture, the intrusion of outdoor allergens and pollutants, and harmful
emissions produced by building products during construction.
- This Old House Carlisle Project (Carlisle, MA) As part of the 25th anniversary project
on This Old House, Icynene helped TOH crew preserve the architectural integrity of this
historic home while delivering a healthy and efficient living environment.
- This Old House Cambridge House Project (Cambridge, MA) Icynene helped
introduce a new look to this historic home while addressing fundamental structural
upgrades.
- This Old House East Boston Project (Boston, MA) Unlike the others before it, the This
Old House East Boston project had two stories to tell. Icynene worked double-time to
help the two homeowners complete this retrofit without sacrificing retro style.
- Rose Cherry's Home for Kids (Milton, ON) Set in a heavily wooded, protected
biosphere reserve, Rose Cherry's Home is a paradigm for sustainable healthcare design.
Icynene was among the green building products selected to help improve Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) and preserve the surrounding environment.
- The New American Home® 2006 (Orlanda, FL) A true example of "eco-friendly
elegance," The New American Home 2006 became the first certified green home in the
program's 23-year history for using environmentally sound construction materials and
principles, including Icynene.
- The New American Home 2005 (Orlanda, FL) As a soft expanding foam, Icynene
helped this luxury Energy Star®- rated home achieve its key objectives of energy
efficiency, indoor air quality, safety and market value.
- This Old House Key West Project (Key West, FL) During the winter of 1999, the TOH
crew put Icynene to work to seal the entire building envelope and cut down on interior
condensation in the humid Florida climate. One of the first in a long line of projects
featuring Icynene - the home was also featured in an issue of This Old House Magazine.
