The Crown Trade Timonox range of flame retardant coatings has been selected for the refurbishment of the Beckers Estate, a development of around 140 homes managed by Hackney Homes. Chosen for its excellent performance characteristics, as well as its durability and palette of over 1,000 colours, the Crown Trade Timonox system has supported the Arms Length Management Organisation (ALMO) in the creation of a safe and attractive living environment for residents.

A key requirement for the scheme was to achieve the Class 0 rating (as defined in section B2 of approved document B of the UK Building Regulations), required for communal circulation areas and escape routes. Furthermore, Hackney Homes also sought to give residents greater involvement and consultation during the project.

To meet these aims, Hackney Homes took advantage of Crown Trade’s expert consultation and specification services. Alongside developing a personalised specification based on the results of detailed microscopic assessment of existing paintwork, Crown Trade also attended an on-site roadshow to present a range of proposed colour schemes to residents.

“During the project Crown Paints provided an exceptional level of service and ongoing support,” said Gary Lane, principal contractor at Hackney Homes. “Throughout the refurbishment it was critical for us to involve residents every step of the way and assure them that the works would cause minimal disruption to their day-to-day lives. By attending the roadshow, Crown Paints helped us to keep residents of the Beckers Estate fully informed – this included presenting information on timescales and the benefits of Timonox – and enabled them to select and create their preferred colour scheme.”

Gary continued, “In addition, by completing careful, comprehensive assessments, Crown Paints ensured we were selecting the best possible coatings for the job and were also fulfilling our duty of care requirements.”

Crown Trade Timonox has a 30 year history of protecting surfaces, and slowing down spread of flame. The range is fully and extensively tested and assessed by Bodycote Warringtonfire to both UK and European test standards.
