The ultra hard-wearing coating Crown Trade Clean Extreme Scrubbable Matt emulsion has made the grade for the interior of a new Scottish school.

Mile End Primary School in Aberdeen has been completed as part of Aberdeen City Council’s £120m flagship 3Rs (reorganise, renovate, rebuild) schools development programme.

The specification of Crown Trade’s most hard-wearing and practical matt coating is ideal for the rigours of school life. It also meets the council’s sustainability objectives as it is expected to considerably extend the school’s redecoration schedule with its intrinsic scuff and dirt resistance and ‘scrubbable’ properties.

Clean Extreme Scrubbable Matt also balances extreme durability with good looks – providing vibrant colour and a contemporary finish to create an inspirational environment for staff and students alike.

All decorative work at the new school has been carried out by McLaren of Aberdeen. The company has won contracts to paint a number of the new school buildings being developed under the 3Rs programme, which aims to ensure all Aberdeen Council’s schools will provide excellent facilities and an appropriate demographic fit for the next 30 years. The programme has been implemented via a public private partnership with financial support from the Scottish government.

Decorating contracts were awarded by Pihl UK, the Danish-based turnkey contractor appointed by the local authority, responsible for delivering two all-new secondary schools, rebuilding seven primary schools, refurbishing another and incorporating two special schools within the new developments.

Dave Torey, director of McLaren said: “We’re delighted to have been involved with Aberdeen’s 3Rs project, which is a major step in a long term programme to regenerate Aberdeen’s school estate.

“When all parties are working hard to achieve sustainability and best value, it makes perfect sense to make full use of a decorative coating like Clean Extreme Scrubbable Matt wherever possible. We’ve opted to use this particular Crown Trade coating extensively on all sorts of commercial and public sector projects ever since the product was launched and we know there’s nothing available to beat it for durability and appearance retention in heavy traffic areas. It’s tough, it’s stain-resistant, and you can scrub painted walls clean time and time again, and yet the paint finish always looks as good as new.”

McLaren have also used Clean Extreme Scrubbable Matt to decorate the interior of Braehead School in Aberdeen as part of the 3Rs programme.
