The Evac+Chair, winner of the Industrial Designers of America's Design of the Decade Award, is a simple, safe and effective method of stairway descent for the mobility-impaired, allowing safe escape for all. It enables one person to transport a mobility-impaired person downstairs and on the flat quickly and safely in an emergency. The Evac+Chair doesn’t hinder other stairway users and requires no great physical strength because operation is smooth and controlled, due to specially modified V-belts which work continuously to slow down descent over stair nosings in proportion to the passenger’s weight.
