Van Besouw - Innovative and Durable Carpets

Van Besouw carpets are innovative carpets that use materials to stimulate people's imagination through simplicity and a bit of magic. Van Besouw is known for creating durable carpets made from unusual materials such as cotton and linen, with subtly created textures and carefully chosen colours.

Van Besouw Tapijt BV is located in Goirle, The Netherlands. Both production and sales are based there. Our collection is marketed under the Van Besouw brand. It is sold by specialist retailers and decorators and it is often specifically requested by interior designers. Our products are also often specified by architects for contract use.

WOVEN CARPETS AND KNITTED CARPETS

Van Besouw has two production methods - weaving and knitting. Our knitting technique is unique, and there is only a very limited number of manufacturers engaging in weaving. Both production methods require old-fashioned craftsmanship and are labour-intensive; both guarantee perfect quality and durability. Both weaving and knitting can create unique textures that cannot be reproduced by other techniques.

INNOVATIVE CARPET MAKING TECHNIQUES

Van Besouw are experts in their field. We pride ourselves on our innovative techniques and unique designs. A good example is Van Besouw’s 3801 carpet, first introduced in late 1969. Made of cotton, it was first received with disbelief as cotton was considered an inferior material at the time. A cotton carpet pile is not elastic and shows that people use it - a deliberate but unheard-of characteristic at first.

The 3801 became very popular as people grew accustomed to the new idea and soon many manufacturers could not resist producing cheap copies of our original. However Van Besouw's superior quality was never equalled due to its knitted construction and most of the copies have long since been overtaken by time.

UNUSUAL CARPET MATERIALS AND SUBTLE TEXTURES

Van Besouw is driven by creativity. We aim to create designs that are contemporary yet timeless. Our designs stand out because we dare to work with unusual materials. We know how to combine materials, techniques and colours into carpets that make our users feel special. Van Besouw carpets come to life in homes and offices.

The 5401 100% linen carpet is one of Van Besouw's finer products. The 5401's colour is not in the pile, but in its backing. We have omitted rows of pile to allow the colour to be seen. The strong straight rows of pile first have to be walked on to get their irregular appearance. Although it was developed as an avant-garde carpet for domestic use, it has also found its way onto many prestigious contract applications.

CARPETS FOR HEAVY CONTRACT USE

The 2202 is a sturdy and robust carpet. Those characteristics go beyond mere appearance; in everyday use, the 2202 lives up to this description as well. The thick cable carries the colour. The overall image is amplified by the contrast with the black underground, which gives the 2202 its distinct character that even large surfaces cannot obscure.

Other products of Van Besouw have been created with the same philosophy in mind - contemporary carpets, made of unusual materials in interesting structures, completed with stunning colour lines.
