Sekisui - Interlayer Films for Laminate Glass

Sekisui's S-LEC® range of multi-layered protective films provide the very latest in acoustic protection, UV protection, and IR / heat reflection solutions for glass in all types of structures.

The films are used on laminated glass in the building and automotive markets.

S-LEC - PROTECTIVE INTERLAYER FILMS FOR LAMINATE GLASS

Sekisui makes use of a multi-layer technology which simultaneously extrudes several layers from a metallic mould to produce a multi-layer PolyVinyl Butyral (PVB) film. This S-LEC technology has enabled Sekisui to produce interlayer films with many new functions, including sound control.

S-LEC technology helps to answer many of the problems faced by architects at the design stage of construction. Three-layer technology raises the standards of laminated glass by increasing its properties and improving its performance.

Alongside better safety and security, S-LEC offers higher IR protection, as well as substantially greater acoustic protection.

S-LEC® SOUND ACOUSTIC FILM

Laminated glass already has some noise reducing properties. However, S-LEC three-layer Sound Acoustic Film (SAF), with its special resin layer core, delivers significantly better sound attenuation. The decrease in noise is greatest in the frequency range where windows easily resonate - around 2,000Hz.

SAF provides higher levels of comfort inside buildings as it guards from outside noise - the film acoustically separates the interior from the outside world. Measurements show that this film achieves 40% more sound insulation than standard PVB films. SAF increases the acoustic performance of laminated glass.

S-LEC® SEF FILM - NEW DESIGN POSSIBILITIES

S-LEC SEF Film (SEF) is a translucent sheet with an embossed surface. SEF is made by extrusion of an Ethylene-Acetate (EVA)copolymer.

SEF has excellent adhesion strength to inorganic materials like glass or metals, and organic materials such as PolyCarbonate (PC) and PET. This property of SEF makes it ideal for laminating glass or other materials. It opens up new possibilities for the use of glass as an architectural design feature.

FREEDOM OF DESIGN

SEF adds valuable properties to glass such as:

  • Strength (anti intrusion)
  • UV block (heat cut incorporated with thermo control PET)
  • Sound transmission loss
  • Decoration

Due to its characteristics, SEF is a special product with unlimited applications. SEF is hydrophobic from nature, which means that it doesn't absorb water. Therefore, SEF can be used for open-edge methods, or in places subject to high temperatures or humidity, such as bathrooms.

SEF is also very easy to handle. It doesn’t need air-conditioning for storage, and can be assembled at normal temperatures. It can also be laminated at low temperatures. For the laminating process, SEF only needs heating under vacuum conditions.

The SEF film expands the use of glass in design terms, opening up unlimited decorative possibilities for shops, offices, public buildings and even housing - whether it's for windows, glass partitions, signage or displays.

S-LEC® SOLAR CONTROL FILM

Today's larger windows mean more light. Although this light is healthier for people, a consequence is that more heat penetrates the vehicle or building.

Solar Control Film (SCF) is a film made of PVB. Not only does S-LEC SCF filter out around 99% of UV rays, but it is also 40% better at screening out solar heat (IR) energy, while at the same time enabling enough visible light to be transmitted through the film. Unlike a coating on the glass, it does not impair radio signals or mobile telephony, for example.

By protecting against the sun's rays, SCF reduces the burden on air-conditioning systems and saves energy.

S-LEC SOUND AND SOLAR FILM

In order to bring two desirable functions (sound and solar protection) together in one PVB interlayer, Sekisui has started developing a combination of the two high-performance technologies.

The design strategy was to introduce nanodispersion technology to multi-layer technology, which meant that IR cut-off fine particles were dispersed in SAF. In this case, we could have various design choices in which layers of the fine particles were dispersed.

S-Lec Sound and Solar Film (SSF) was born by combining these two technologies. It can perform sound and solar protection together in one PVB interlayer.

Sekisui S-Lec occupies a strong market position with unique technology and high performance products. Driven by customers' needs and environmental issues, we work continuously to improve products and production processes.

Sekisui S-Lec is QS 9000, ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certified.
