Viracon, the country’s largest single-source glass fabricator, has received a State of Minnesota Human Rights Award. The award was presented by the League of Minnesota Human Rights Commissions on September 29th at their annual conference held at the Grand Casino Convention Center – Mille Lacs.
According to the commission, Viracon was chosen for the award because of the company’s commitment to diversity, inclusion and training. The company is an employer of choice for minority workers and has made an investment in developing this workforce and helping all employees reach their full potential.
“Viracon is fortunate to have a skilled and dedicated workforce. Activity which continues to develop and upgrade skills will ensure that Viracon will have a strong and prepared workforce for the future,” says Jim Wendorff, vice president of human resources.
This State Award follows the local award from the Steele County Human Rights Commission earlier this year. Late last year, Viracon announced a new training program aimed at developing its minority workforce. The innovative Employer of Opportunity training program, developed in conjunction with Riverland Community College, was developed to give minority employees the language, academic and technical skills necessary to elevate them into higher wage-earning positions in Viracon.
