ATG Access - Static and Moving Security Bollards

In light of a recent government announcement regarding security in crowded places. There is to be an urgent review of security at public access locations around the UK. Rising to address the issue, leading UK bollard manufacturer ATG has developed a range of static and moving security bollards which have been impact tested and certified to offer a guaranteed level of security against vehicular attack.

IMPACT TESTED AUTOMATIC BOLLARD - SP1000

Following our prominent involvement in the PAS 68 testing programme, ATG’s SP1000 automatic rising bollard has become a benchmark for the industry and the flagship product within our automatic bollard range after it successfully arrested a fully laden 7.5t truck on two separate occasions at the TRL testing facility in Wokingham, Berkshire. The first test was at 50km/h (30mph) and resulted in a complete "dead stop" of the vehicle and the bollard continuing to function. The following week the bollard was retested, this time at 80km/h (50mph) and again resulted in a complete arrest of the vehicle and the bollard continuing to function.

The SP1000 is already a huge success both in the UK and Internationally and currently protects several high profile (and secret) locations.

TESTED AND CERTIFIED SECURITY BOLLARDS

ATG Access works closely with TRL and with the British Government to ensure that the SP1000 security bollard is tested to a level that is appropriate for its application. Taking measures against vehicular attack involves introducing features to limit vehicle speeds and other forms of obstacle, such as chicanes, to restrict access to certain forms of vehicle.

When choosing equipment intended to sustain an impact and prevent such an attack it is important to ensure that the level of testing is recognised and certified to a standard which is fit for purpose There are lots of options around claiming to be "impact tested" but they do not state the level of testing and, indeed, whether or not the test was passed or failed. The SP1000 has been tested to the impact criteria contained within the forthcoming PAS 68 bollards standard and the impact dynamics match those specified by US K4, K8 and K12 standards.

The impact sustained was 1,872kJ, the equivalent of:

  • a family car travelling at 175km/h (110mph)
  • a transit-style van travelling at 116km/h (72mph)
  • a 20t truck travelling at 50km/h (30mph)
  • a 30t truck travelling at 40km/h (25mph)

One of the most important points to note in these PAS 68 tests is that they were undertaken against a single bollard which on each occasion continued to function following impact. The SP1000 will prove a valuable solution in the War on Terror, and offers tangible and reliable protection against VBIEDs (Vehicle Borne Improvised Explosive Devices).

IMPACT-TESTED MANUAL SECURITY BOLLARD - ATG 139

The ATG 139 security bollard became the first UK manufactured manual security post to be impact tested when hit at 30km/h (20mph) with a frame weighing over twice as much as a standard family car. The bollard was deflected by just 2°, the concrete foundation deflecting by 17° - the British standard for a test of this nature is a deflection of no more than 31°.
