A £10m centre designed by David Adjaye that offers architectural training to underprivileged youths has opened in Deptford, UK.
The Stephen Lawrence Centre opened last week in memory of the teenager who had ambitions of becoming an architect before he was murdered 15 years ago.
The Prince of Wales says the centre will allow underprivileged teenagers like Lawrence to follow their dreams in the area of architecture, engineering and building.
"Our lives are shaped by the towns and cities we inhabit and by the beauty or the ugliness of our surroundings," Prince Charles says.
"From time to time, this powerful truth so touches a young man, or a young woman, that they decide they must become an architect – to play some part in arresting the tide of uglification which threatens to engulf us, and to reintroduce beauty and harmony."
