Super Towers – New Villages in the Sky

07 March 2008

While using space high above ground is not a new idea, a team of British designers plan to utilise the London skyline with a new generation of super tower buildings to house hundreds of thousands of residents.

Drawn up by UK-based company Popularchitecture, the ambitious plans focus on a giant skyscraper in East London, three times taller than the tallest building in the capital, creating 12 new 'villages' in the sky.

The tower, which is designed to be enviornmentally friendly, can house 100,000 people, with 500 floors, incorporating schools, hospitals, shops and pubs, making them fully self-contained, according to the company.

The ideas have received interest from some developers, according to Popularchitecture.
