World's Tallest Building Planned for Jeddah

02 April 2008

Plans to build the world's tallest tower in Saudi Arabia, complete with a giant computer-operated damper to counter the effects of the wind, have been unveiled by the owner of London's Savoy Hotel, Al-Walid.

The mile-high tower, created by British engineers, will be built in a "mini-city" near Jeddah, writes The Sunday Times newspaper.

The building will be stabilised by two mini-towers attached to the main structure by arched sky-bridges.

The building will be almost seven times the height of the UK's Canary Wharf Tower in London's Docklands and taller than the tallest skyscrapers currently being built in Dubai and Kuwait.
