Building owners in the US will now have to submit their annual energy consumption data, following new rules set by the US Green Building Council.
The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) programme requires annual operational performance data for LEEDv3 certification.
The data will help monitor performance gaps between the design and operation phases of the buildings. It will also aid the building owners in engaging residents to realise energy efficiency goals by charting usage patterns.
LEED senior vice-president Scot Horst said that the collected data will vouch for higher building performance, prioritising energy efficiency and CO2 emissions reduction.
The certification will be reviewed biannually, as per the directive.
More than 35,000 projects are currently LEED certified.
