The Bridge Homeless Assistance Center located in Dallas, US, has received LEED Silver certification from the US Green Building Council for the incorporation of sustainable design concepts.
Designed by San Antonio-based Overland Partners Architects and Dallas-based CamargoCopeland Architects, the project was completed in 2008 and is the largest homeless shelter to receive the green ranking.
The scheme comprises five buildings with green features such as natural day lighting, a grey water recycling system, a green-roofed dining room, a temporary shelter built within a reclaimed warehouse and plantation of low-irrigation plants.
The building materials used include 100% low VOC, 20% local materials and 40% recycled components.
The Bridge features a one-storey welcome building, three-storey services building, dining hall, storage facility, and open-air pavilion all situated on a 3.41-acre site.
