UAE Approves Green Building Standards

12 July 2010

The UAE Government has approved green building standards in a bid to boost environmental sustainability in the country.

With the approval, the UAE will become the first country in the Middle East and North African region to apply global environmental standards to government building projects.

The new guidelines aim to increase environmental safety and establish clear standards for certified green developments.

The measures are also expected to contribute to energy efficiency by promoting water conservation, encouraging smarter building design and reducing carbon emissions.

Numerous buildings such as schools, hospitals and health centres will be built between 2011-2013 under the new guidelines, according to business24-7.ae.
