Carillion’s 80:20 joint venture with Qatar Building Company has won a £395m contract for a major phase of the Msheireb Downtown Doha project developed by Msheireb Properties in Qatar.

The Msheireb Downtown Doha project is a mixed-use development that includes retail, commercial, residential, leisure, cultural and community facilities.

Carillion’s experience of delivering sustainable developments will play a role in Msheireb’s objective to achieve Gold or Platinum certification from the US Green Building Council’s LEED green construction rating scheme.

The contract, which is worth £316m to Carillion, is expected to begin in December 2011.
