eco park

UK’s National League side Forest Green Rovers (FGR) football club and Ecotricity have unveiled the concept design for a £100m sports and green technology development, named the ‘Eco Park’, which will include a new stadium for the club.

The centre will be built at Junction 13 on the M5 in Stroud, and span across 100 acres of land. Half of the land has been allocated for the 5,000-seater stadium.

FGR intends to equip the centre with state-of-the-art sporting facilities and plans to keep an expansion provision for the stadium to have room for 10,000-strong audience.

The proposed development will also feature training fields, 4G pitches, multi-disciplinary sporting area, and a sports science hub.

The other half of the Eco Park will include a green technology business park, which will comprise of sustainable commercial offices and light industrial units. Together, these will offer up to 4,000 job opportunities.

"Eco Park could be a fantastic development for Stroud, a great new home for Forest Green Rovers."

Concept designs for the development also include potential construction of a public transport hub, including a Stroud Park and Ride.

The project will also ensure joint efforts from Ecotricity and Cotswold Canals Trust to open-up part of the ‘missing mile’ of the Stroudwater canal next to the M5.

Ecotricity founder and FGR chairman Dale Vince said: "Eco Park could be a fantastic development for Stroud, a great new home for Forest Green Rovers, and a centre of excellence for sport in Gloucestershire.

"At the same time, it’s going to be a place where green businesses and technology companies come together and share ideas, a real focal point of creativity and innovation for the area, and a part of the green industrial revolution that’s beginning to take off around the world."
