Construction of the Red Cedar Renaissance, a $380m mixed-used project in Lansing, Michigan, US, is expected to commence in June.

The project will build two boutique hotels, a medical office building, five restaurants, 129 town houses, and student housing with capacity to accommodate 1,200 people.

It will be developed by Ferguson Development in partnership with Continental Real Estate, reports Detroit Free Press.

Ferguson Development president Joel Ferguson was quoted by the publication as saying: "This will be a game changer for Lansing and East Lansing. It will be a catalyst for other activities happening."

"The project will build two boutique hotels, a medical office building, five restaurants, 129 town houses, and student housing."

Ferguson entered a comprehensive development agreement with the city of Lansing in 2014.

It then received approval for changing the zones on the golf course to accomodate residential and commercial developments.

According to the Red Cedar Renaissance plan, each hotel will be located across from two retail buildings, which will cover a 39,000ft² area housing restaurants and shops.

Besides the three-storey town houses, the site will also include a medical office building at the west of the central development near the corner of Michigan Avenue and Clippert Street.

There are plans to build parks along the south edge of the project, which will also feature ice rinks, bike trails and a pavilion for outdoor concerts, reported Associated Press.

After the project is completed in around two years, the area will be managed by Ohio-based Hallmark Campus Communities.
