Swinerton and Trammell complete topping out of mixed-use Alexan Tower in US

Swinerton Builders and Trammell Crow Residential have completed topping out of the mixed-use Alexan Tower apartment project in Downtown San Diego, California.

The 250,000ft² structure topped out at a final height of 220ft, which includes a 19-storey Type 1 apartment tower and a four-storey Type V low-rise, with three levels of underground parking.

Apartments will range in size from 459ft² studios to 2,228ft² two-bedroom penthouses.

The Alexan San Diego will feature 313 apartments with upscale amenities, including an 18th floor pool and spa.

The development was designed by Joseph Wong Design Associates of San Diego, and is expected to have first occupancy in the fourth quarter of this year.

Nasland Engineering and landscape architect LandLab were also involved in the project's design team.

The scope of construction work also includes rehabilitation of the onsite Mexican Presbyterian Church.

"The development is set to include recreational areas, gathering spaces and lounges, with a 19th-floor party space, bar and rooftop pool."

Swinerton has completed Phase I of the relocation, and plans to begin Phase II and rehabilitation of the building later this year.

Trammell’s Southern California Division began initial construction on The Alexan development in February last year.

The development is also set to include subterranean parking for 376 vehicles, and will feature recreational areas, gathering spaces and lounges, with a 19th-floor party space, bar and rooftop pool.

Completion of the project is currently scheduled for the third quarter of this year.
