2000 Avenue of the Stars is the latest in a long line of landmark developments in the heart of Los Angeles.

The concrete outdoor central plaza between 2000 Avenue of the Stars and century plaza will become four acres of landscaped green space.

The two buildings are joined by bridges at the second, eleventh and twelfth floors.

At 66 storeys, London Bridge Tower will be Europe's tallest mixed-use building.

London Bridge Tower will be a landmark development for the local community as well as the business community.


The new development, Seville Parasol, is intended to revitalise an uninspiring area of the city.

The general feel of the design was inspired by the city of Seville itself – vaulted church interiors, Moorish ornament, such as Andalusian grilles, and large sprawling trees.

An elevated plaza with bars and restaurants will be an area where people can watch a concert, play or sporting event.

All the layers are accessible via stairwells in the columns and it's also possible to take a lift 30m to the inner lip at the top of the parasols.

The six-parasol structure also houses a farmer's market, a metro station, and numerous bars and restaurants underneath and inside the parasol.

The free-standing parasols cover an area of 150m x 70m, which is one of the largest architectural timber structures ever built.

The scale of the Civic Centre is different from the houses around it.

The Civic Centre includes a branch of the city hall, a community centre and a library.


The siting of the new high-rise tower at the corner of Blackfriars Road and Stamford Street has caused some controversy.

The tower (then called the Boomerang because of its shape) was originally proposed at 219.3m, with 68 storeys, but was eventually scaled down after concerns about its impact on the area.

One Blackfriars Road was granted planning permission by Southwark Council in July 2007, despite objections from a number of quarters including English Heritage, Lambeth Council, Westminster Council and the Royal Parks.

A public observation gallery will be situated on the upper two floors, offering panoramic views across the capital.

32 affordable homes and landscaped public spaces will also be included as part of the scheme in a separate building on Rennie Street.


The Porsche Design Towers I and II are located in the heart of Dubai's Business Bay.

The façade of both buildings will be made of white concrete louvers.

Both towers fully relate to each other in terms of width, height, structure and façade systems.


Plans were based on the classic rectangular grid of the Italian città, a model that was also used in many ancient Chinese cities.

Pujiang's most important public structures are situated along a central axis that cuts through its residential districts. These include a palazzo built at the centre of a small lake.

Most other buildings are limited to no more than four storeys in order to protect the views of the surrounding landscape.

Pujiang's pedestrian and bicycle lanes are lined with trees, and there are dozens of bridges across the town's network of waterways.

Soho Shang Du's complex design relies heavily on the use of fractals, where the same shapes repeat at different scales, from interior decoration to the towers themselves.

A 'warehouse shell' approach has been taken, allowing units to be use as either residential or office space.

The Gürtel is the main traffic artery of Vienna.

The core of the Gürtel's image transposition strategy lies in populating the Stadtbahn arches with cultural and entertainment facilities, restaurants and pubs.

The curved building on top of the unused viaduct follows the movement of the former train line in a shifted arc.


A model of the finished design. The 90m tower at the end of the pier reaches approximately the same height as the nearby Aguia Mountain, creating a visual harmony between the rock and its surroundings, and matches the highest points of the town of Vigo.

The 'jardin de las mareas' (the garden of tides) is an 800m-long 'sea garden', with its mineral beach resembling a crater, and forming an avenue that stretches to the base of the hotel. It is formed of a complex of layered terraces so that the tides cause its boundaries to shift.

Nouvel was announced as the architect this May, after beating 18 other contenders to the project in an international competition held by the Vigo Port Authority. His proposal was designed by a team made up of Ateliers Jean Nouvel, XMD Arquitectura e Cidade and Técnicas Reunidas SA., Francisco Berenguel, Xerardo Estevez, David Fagart, Jorge Martin, Francois Winninger and Macario Sanchez.
