Balfour Beatty’s JV secures £295m residential project contract in Hong Kong

Balfour Beatty’s 50:50 Far East joint venture (JV) Gammon Construction secured a HKD$3bn (£295m) contract for the construction of a waterfront residential project in Hong Kong.

Being constructed on behalf of Great Eagle Group, the project includes eight medium-rise residential blocks and four houses that will feature a two-level basement facing Tai Po’s Tolo Harbour located in Northern Hong Kong.

As part of the project, the JV intends to improve construction efficiencies by generating and managing important data using technologies such as three-dimensional (3D) scanning and Building Information Modelling (BIM).

Swansea University selects Kier Group for new Student Activity Centre

Swansea University in the UK selected property, residential, construction and services provider Kier Group to develop its new Student Precinct, including a £30m Student Activity Centre at its Singleton Park Campus.

The new development is set to begin next year, with completion expected by 2020.

The Student Precinct and the new Student Activity Centre will be constructed on the site of the existing Digital Technium building and is the latest development in the university’s ten-year campus development programme’s £300m second phase.

Mori Building commences 59-floor office tower in Jakarta

Mori Building commenced the construction of a 59-floor office tower in the Sudirman area of Jakarta, Indonesia.

Provisionally called The Jakarta Office Tower Project, this is Mori Building’s first undertaking in Southeast Asia.

Set to open in 2021, the Jakarta Office Tower is located in the centre of the Golden Triangle, which is the main thoroughfare in the city’s central business district and is next to Semanggi Intersection and the New Semanggi Flyover on Sudirman Street.

Second phase construction of Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in US concludes

Welty Building Company completed the second phase of construction of the Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Ohio, US.

The new National Football League-caliber outdoor football stadium is the first of ten components of the nearly $800m Johnson Controls Hall of Fame Village project led by the Pro Football Hall of Fame and Industrial Realty Group (IRG).

Welty is also serving as the construction manager for the four-star hotel and conference centre, which is set for completion in 2019.

Design unveiled for Al Thumama Stadium in Qatar

The Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy (SC) in Qatar unveiled the design for Al Thumama Stadium, ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2022.

Designed by Arab Engineering Bureau chief architect Ibrahim Jaidah, the stadium is inspired by the ‘ghafiya’ headdress.

SC secretary general Hassan Al Thawadi said: “Our vision with this World Cup was always to complement and assist in developing local talent, and shed a light on local industry.”

Red Sea Housing signs MoU with AECOM for modular housing solutions in Saudi Arabia

Red Sea Housing Services (RSH) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with AECOM Middle East to deliver modular affordable housing solutions in Saudi Arabia.

Under the terms of the deal, RSH will manufacture and deliver modular building units from its facility while AECOM will be responsible for designing, engineering, planning, and project managing the housing projects.

This deal will combine Red Sea Housing's modular construction expertise and AECOM's knowledge in sustainable and energy-efficient construction solutions.

EdR opens Sycamore Suites residence hall in ESU campus in US

Housing communities developer EdR opened a new residence hall ‘Sycamore Suites’ on the campus of East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania (ESU) in East Stroudsburg, US.

Sycamore Suites is the last phase of a multi-phased development project led by EdR.

In 2012, the initial phase of the regenerated on-campus housing, Hawthorn and Hemlock Suites, was concluded.

Multiplex wins £240m contract for AYKON London One tower

Global contractor Multiplex secured a £240m deal to construct Nine Elms Property’s AYKON London One residential tower.

Nine Elms Property is a wholly owned subsidiary of real estate developer Damac International.

Set to be designed in partnership with Italian fashion house Versace Home, the €645m 50-storey tower will comprise studios, as well as one, two and three bedroom apartments.
