Elval Colour commercial manager Spyros Katopodis spoke to Design Build about what motivates the company on a day to day basis and the key trends which define the future of the industry.
What is the big idea? What are the key products and services that Elval Colour provides?
Spyros Katopodis: Elval Colour provides reliable and innovative products with an inspiring range of colours and surfaces, complemented with a consultation, plus digital solutions for all phases of a building project – we do this right from the initial idea through to design, fabrication and installation.
We can assist in the realisation of the architectural vision by offering custom made colours and digitised product application solutions. For developers and investors, we offer products that add value to their project by matching product design, durability and aesthetics to their market positioning.
That’s why etalbond®, orofe® and the rest of our range are produced in such a wide variety of coating surfaces, alloys and so on – to provide total freedom of expression to designers who choose to use Elval Colour’s products.
What is the main selling point of Elval Colour products?
SK: Our main selling points are high quality and a passion for excellence, combined with a strong culture of service and a global presence. Elval Colour is a competent partner for investors, architects and fabricators worldwide.
We are vertically integrated into our product line, right from its very initial stage as raw aluminium. We are one of the three companies worldwide who are producing our own incombustible core – this fact in tandem with the vertical nature of our production process gives us full control of the casting, rolling, coating and lamination processes and full traceability of our material. We know the molten metal origins of every panel or every linear meter of roofing material we supply and have full traceability of the coated surface.
Our coatings are chrome and lead free, providing a safe environment for all our workers and a risk-free final product for our clients. They can be designed to match vivid architectural imagination and adhere to strict durability criteria.
Plus, our manufacturing facilities utilise cutting-edge technology thus ensuring environmental responsibility.
What are the key trends you are seeing in terms of the products and services your customers are wanting?
SK: Nowadays, the need for innovative and sustainable materials is greater than ever before, to realise the creative visions of architects and designers. Contemporary buildings not only have to comply with the highest design standards, but also must meet the latest technical requirements in the fields of sustainability, energy efficiency, noise protection, fire protection, and so on.
Our cutting-edge technology and expert know-how give us the competitive edge to match the aesthetic appeal of natural materials with a texture that is identical to the real thing.
We also see a need for more responsibility and transparency in the project supply chain. Our systems and mechanisms in place offer full product traceability.
What are the key challenges and problems customers are coming to you with and how are you solving them?
SK: Customers come to us concerned about complex constructions, new colours and new environmental demands. They’re also keen to mitigate any potential fire risks and want a full range of product specifications, certifications and applications.
Elval Colour’s specialised personnel are capable to assist and guide in identifying and implementing the optimum coating system for any construction project and specific requirements.
How do you see the future of the coated aluminium products sector?
SK: I use an acronym – RESPECT.
Redesign, for freedom of shapes, style, finishes and colours. Energy, for thermal insulation and UV protection. Safety, for fire protection and secure installations. Price, for quality guarantee and certificates. Environment, for life cycle aluminium and ease of cleaning. Comfort, for ventilation, maintenance, and ease of use. And finally, Total Quality Management.
What motivates you and your staff and gets you out of bed in the morning?
SK: We are motivated by the challenge of serving customers worldwide, keeping them happy and satisfied, coupled with the real joy of success in realising the dreams of every architect. We are committed to our customers and to the excellence of our products from the early stages of production till final delivery.
As one of the leaders in the industry – aspiring always to superior product quality and excellent service – we remain dedicated to our customers’ specific needs and are always glad to respond in the most effective and efficient way to those needs.
