Narbonne Arena first opened its doors to the public in December 2019, hosting music festivals and indoor sports events, as well as providing space for conferences and exhibitions. Designed by architect Marc Mimram, the arena has a seating capacity up to 4,950, including a retractable stand to allow for a pit if necessary.
With a focus on modernity, the multimodal building sits at the heart of Narbonne’s sports park, helping to promote culture and sport throughout the region. It is located at the Eastern entrance to the French town, creating an impressive landscape and cultural centre for the residents of Narbonne.
The building is composed of glass and concrete, and creates a skyline using Elval Colour’s aluminium composite panels. Elval Colour Ibérica participated in developing the technical solution in order to meet the architects’ expectations.
The company provided 6,000m² of etalbond FR aluminium composite panels in Ref. 102 silver metallic, which were machined and conformed into 1,900 cassettes ready to mount from its facility in Barcelona. The panels were transformed in over a one-month period.
Etalbond FR aluminium composite panels for façade architecture
Etalbond has been technologically developed to facilitate creative architectural designs. Available in a wide selection of vivid colours, the flexible composite panels can be used as a cladding solution for both exterior and interior renovations and constructions. Boasting light, durable and rigid properties, the material is designed to improve the energy efficiency of buildings with effective insulation.
The aluminium composite panel consists of a polyethylene or mineral core sandwiched between fine aluminium sheets, which are bonded by compressing the three parts with adhesive to ensure a strong and rigid panel. It is low-maintenance and easy to clean even in urban and industrial environments.
For the Narbonne Arena, etalbond FR was selected for its compliance with even the most stringent safety requirements due to its flame-resistant properties. etalbond® FR has a mineral core that protects from fire, as well as allows flexible forming techniques and resistance to weather.
This composite panel offers a number of advantages over traditional construction materials, including an impressive strength-to-weight ratio, rigidity, rapid installation, UV characteristics and easy maintenance. It is a self-supporting panel suitable for façade architecture, adding an elegant design to buildings such as arenas, high-rise buildings, roof edges and canopies.
Etalbond FR is also fully recyclable. Both the mineral core and the aluminium sheets can be recycled to be used in the production of new material.
What other façade etalbond material does Elval Colour provide?
Elval Colour’s etalbond A2 aluminium composite panel is rated A2 for incombustibility due to its mineral core, as well as offering the lowest smoke emission possible and resistance to droplets when exposed to fire. It is suitable for high-rise buildings or those that see a lot of traffic, such as airports or train stations, or high sensitivity builds such as hospitals or schools.
Elval Colour is a leading coated aluminium manufacturer based in Europe. Established in 1977, has a broad portfolio of products designed to enhance architectural vision by creating innovative and creative spaces.
