Umicore VM ZINC launched the third bi-annual Archizinc Trophy last November at Batimat. Open to architects throughout the world, the competition awards prizes in four building categories: Individual Housing, Collective Housing, Public Buildings and Commercial Buildings. Four additional prizes were awarded for “Innovation”, “Environment” and, for the first time, “Technical Performance” in addition to the “Jury’s Prize”. Almost 150 entries from 17 countries including the USA, Lebanon, Australia, Canada and Europe were received.

The purpose of the competition is not only to reward the most
creative architectural designs and the way they are integrated into
their environment, but to highlight zinc in new applications.
The award ceremony took place in the presence of the members of the jury of 13 renowned international architects, the competition winners and participants and representatives of the Umicore Group on June 9 at the Maison des Polytechniciens in Paris.

Fifteen buildings were shortlisted with one winner per category and three special prizes for Innovation, Technical Performance and Environment. As in the past, a Jury’s prize was also awarded from a diverse list of projects including from a Bunker House in Germany, a university residence in Barcelona, the Geo-
Centre in Denmark and Brest airport terminal.
