International forest products company, Weyerhaeuser, continues to raise the bar for sustainability in the timber industry, launching to market Lumin – a new range of competitive, certified, environmentally friendly and socially responsible wood products from their South American base.

First to be launched to Europe is Lumin plywood, which will be in stock from the beginning of Q4 2009 and will replace the existing Forrestar plywood range. The sustainable and performance credentials of Lumin plywood are well proven, with FSC certification available and with all panels fully compliant with CE2+ certification. As with all products in the Lumin range, sustainability of supply will also be guaranteed, ensuring long-term market confidence in the continued availability of Lumin plywood.

John Guerin, European commercial director at Weyerhaeuser, comments: “Weyerhaeuser is committed to driving forward sustainable innovation and promoting the importance of this message in the market.

“The Lumin brand will encompass all future sustainable wood products from South America, and we are already working hard at developing new solutions for the range that help overcome some of the current market challenges – namely the scarcity of high quality and competitive timber products from sustainable sources. Only products which come from truly sustainable sources and can guarantee a sustainable supply will be considered for the Lumin portfolio.”

Produced using trees from responsibly managed plantations, Lumin plywood is manufactured at Weyerhaeuser’s state-of-the-art mill in Uruguay, which operates with ISO 14001 certification and FSC Chain of Custody.

Lumin plywood is supplied in a choice of eucalyptus or pine faced plywood and 14 different grades, including tropical replacement grade panels. The broad span of grades makes Lumin suited to most applications, particularly residential structural and non-structural requirements, concrete forming, furniture, cabinet, millwork and flooring.

A Lumin eucalyptus tropical replacement panel (TRP) is also available, offering a sustainable alternative to tropical and temperate hardwood plywood.

Lumin plywood will be held in stock by distributor partners who share Weyerhaeuser’s sustainable values.
