The corporate purchasing department of the UK’s favourite supermarket, Tesco, has agreed a deal with Monodraught to use Sunpipe natural daylight systems as part its 2010/2011 environmental store development programme.

Following the award of preferred supplier status, Monodraught is providing Tesco with a tailored offering of Sunpipe 230mm and 300mm diameter Diamond Dome models suitable for membrane and profiled metal deck roofs. The deal also includes a range of optional components such as adjustable bends and internal offsets to suit a variety of installations, and Monodraught’s installation service. The Sunpipes will be fitted in areas such as staff and customer toilets, baby change facilities, offices, and staff and training rooms.

Hollyann Holdsworth, buyer for the Tesco environmental store format, says all Tesco main contractors and sub contractors benefit from the volume deal, which covers 80% of the supermarket’s development programme.

Summing up the advantages of the close working relationship with Monodraught, she says: “The arrangement with Monodraught will provide consistency within the 2010/11 store development programme, reduce costs and lead times, make budgeting easier and, because Monodraught covers supply and install, ensure that we have a one-stop-shop for Sunpipes. The Sunpipes will also help us to achieve our strict carbon reduction targets as electric lights in the relevant areas will turn off when enough natural light is available.”

Commenting for Monodraught, managing director Tony Cull says: “We are delighted with the award of Tesco preferred supplier status and pleased that our Sunpipes and our Windcatcher natural ventilation systems are able to help the UK’s favourite supermarket further extend its environmental credentials.”
