The Siemens building technologies division is launching a PC-based software for energy management with the Sentron Powermanager. The program displays, saves and evaluates energy consumption and electrical measurements. Power peaks and errors in the system operation can thus be identified and prevented. The user only needs a Windows PC and modbus-compatible measurement devices.

The Sentron Powermanager is especially suited to the simple introduction to energy management in functional buildings or small industrial complexes because comprehensive pre-settings provide fast and uncomplicated startup. Along with the simple and convenient recording of measurements provided by the multi-functional measurement devices in the Sentron PAC family and the Sentron 3WL and Sentron 3VL circuit breakers, measurements from other modbus devices can also be read using the Sentron Powermanager.

The values from the Sentron devices are displayed online in pre-configured tables and can be easily processed and archived. Furthermore, the software displays consumption flows in cost center reports and load curves. The user receives information about the system status and load and the energy consumption behavior of operational units. This allows the user to prevent power peaks and to reduce their energy costs.

Continuous monitoring provides high energy availability

A further standard function of Sentron Powermanager is the monitoring of connected devices. Events and notifications are displayed to the user on the PC so that they can react to malfunctions immediately. Individual custom settings can be made with the optional ‘Expert’ package that, along with graphical design options, also includes an integrated scripting language.

This enables customer-specific system monitoring of energy distribution using graphic displays. Siemens offers special training courses for the development of the required engineering expertise. To what extent and with what amount of investment energy management is conducted is left entirely to the customer to decide.

From simple, standard operation with a handful of measurement devices to specialized solutions perfectly customized for complex requirements with up to 200 connected devices, all options are open with Sentron Powermanager. The later expansion of a project with additional functions or further devices is also possible with no data loss at any time thanks to a flexible licence concept. Using an additional option, many functions can also be accessed via internet.

World’s largest supplier of eco friendly technologies

The Sentron Powermanager is part of Siemens’ environmental portfolio. In fiscal 2009, revenue from the Portfolio totaled about €23 billion, making Siemens the world’s largest supplier of eco friendly technologies. In the same period, the company’s products and solutions enabled customers to reduce their CO2 emissions by 210 million tons. This amount equals the combined annual CO2 emissions of New York, Tokyo, London and Berlin.
