The global construction industry noticed a 5.3% decline in IT hiring activity in June 2021 over the previous month, led by Black & Veatch’s 5.98% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.

The construction industry’s overall hiring activity declined 1.48% when compared with May 2021.

Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 3.53% share of the global construction industry’s hiring activity in June 2021, up 0.16% over the last three-month average share.

According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of June 2021 were 8.85% lower compared with the previous month.

The decrease was a result of 18.36% higher job postings as compared to job closures during the month.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers drive construction IT hiring activity

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 51.23% emerged as the top IT occupation in the construction hiring activity in June 2021, a 43.51% decline over the previous month. Database and Network Administrators and Architects came in second with a share of 17.16% in June 2021, down 30.43% over the previous month.

The other prominent IT roles include Miscellaneous Computer Occupations with a 14.1% share in June 2021, decline of 13.21% over the previous month, and Computer and Information Analysts with a 7.62% share in June 2021 and drop of 31.38% over May 2021.

Top five construction companies by recruitment activity in June 2021

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average decline of 62.33% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global construction industry during June 2021 over May 2021.

Black & Veatch posted 156 IT jobs in June 2021 and registered a drop of 57.61% over the previous month, followed by Macquarie Infrastructure Group with 139 jobs and a 65.48% rise. AECOM with 120 IT jobs and Stantec with 97 jobs, recorded a 122.22% an increase and a 90.3% drop, respectively, while Jones Lang LaSalle recorded a 7% drop with 93 job postings during June 2021.

Regional composition of IT hiring in construction industry

North America emerged as the leading region in the global construction IT hiring activity in June 2021 with a 48.16% share, which marked a 46.67% drop over the previous month.

Europe stood next with 31%, registering a 26.85% month-on-month decline.Asia-Pacific was the third leading region with an 18.89% share and a 6.27% decline over May 2021.

In the fourth place was Middle East & Africa with a share of 1.46% and a month-on-month growth of 111.11%. South & Central America stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 0.5%, registering an 8.33% an increase over the previous month.
