IT hiring in global construction industry rises 8.2% in July 2021

The global construction industry noticed an 8.2% rise in IT hiring activity in July 2021 over the previous month, led by CDM Smith’s 13.49% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.

The construction industry’s overall hiring activity increased by 3.45% when compared with June 2021.

Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 3.35% share of the global construction industry’s hiring activity in July 2021, up 0.12% over the last three-month average share.

According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of July 2021 were 5.55% higher compared with the previous month.

The increase was a result of 11.23% lower job postings as compared to job closures during the month.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers drive construction IT hiring activity

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 47.79% emerged as the top IT occupation in the construction hiring activity in July 2021, a 26.48% increase over the previous month. Database and Network Administrators and Architects came in second with a share of 28.34% in July 2021, up 128% over the previous month.

The other prominent IT roles include Miscellaneous Computer Occupations with a 15.35% share in July 2021, an increase of 46.59% over the previous month, and Computer and Information Analysts with a 9.6% share in July 2021 and rise of 64.36% over June 2021.

Top five construction companies by recruitment activity in July 2021

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average an increase of 211.17% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global construction industry during July 2021 over June 2021.

CDM Smith posted 434 IT jobs in July 2021 and registered a rise of 4722.22% over the previous month, followed by Black & Veatch with 369 jobs and a 136.54% rise. CBRE Group with 125 IT jobs and Jones Lang LaSalle with 117 jobs, recorded an 861.54% increase and a 14.71% growth, respectively, while China Merchants Property Operation & Service recorded an 11.49% growth with 97 job postings during July 2021.

Regional composition of IT hiring in construction industry

North America emerged as the leading region in the global construction IT hiring activity in July 2021 with a 62.87% share, which marked a 66.64% growth over the previous month.

Europe stood next with 21.35%, registering a 6.78% month-on-month decline. Asia-Pacific was the third leading region with a 14.82% share and a 16.91% rise over June 2021.

In the fourth place was South & Central America with a share of 0.53% and a month-on-month growth of 41.67%. Middle East & Africa stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 0.44%, registering a 63.16% drop over the previous month.
