IT hiring in global food service industry rises 2.1%  in July 2021

The global food service industry noticed a 2.1% rise in IT hiring activity in July 2021 over the previous month, led by McDonald’s’s 12.5% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.

The food service industry’s overall hiring activity declined 3.15% when compared with June 2021.

Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 0.19% share of the global food service industry’s hiring activity in July 2021, up 0.02% over the last three-month average share.

According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of July 2021 were 0.22% higher compared with the previous month.

The increase was a result of 0.63% lower job postings as compared to job closures during the month.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers drive food service IT hiring activity

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 52.5% emerged as the top IT occupation in the food service hiring activity in July 2021, a 37.7% an increase over the previous month. Database and Network Administrators and Architects came in second with a share of 18.13% in July 2021, down 12.12% over the previous month.

The other prominent IT roles include Miscellaneous Computer Occupations with a 10.63% share in July 2021, decline of 52.78% over the previous month, and Computer Support Specialists with a 9.38% share in July 2021 and drop of 11.76% over June 2021.

Top five food service companies by recruitment activity in July 2021

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average decline of 26.17% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global food service industry during July 2021 over June 2021.

McDonald’s posted 20 IT jobs in July 2021 and registered a rise of 150% over the previous month, followed by Starbucks with 19 jobs and a 48.65% decline. Compass Group with 17 IT jobs and HelloFresh with 12 jobs, recorded a 41.38% decline and a 20% drop, respectively, while Greene King recorded a 38.89% drop with 11 job postings during July 2021.

Regional composition of IT hiring in food service industry

North America emerged as the leading region in the global food service IT hiring activity in July 2021 with a 66.88% share, which marked a 21.9% drop over the previous month.

Europe stood next with 30.63%, registering an 8.89% month-on-month increase. Asia-Pacific was the third leading region with a 1.88% share and a flat growth over June 2021.

In the fourth place was Middle East & Africa with a share of 0.63% and a month-on-month drop of 80%.
