North America’s construction industry IT hiring activity rises 13.4%  in July 2021

North America witnessed a 13.4% rise in IT hiring activity in the construction industry in July 2021 compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics index.

July 2021 has seen an increase of 6.98% in the overall hiring activity when compared with June 2021.

IT jobs accounted for a 3.48% share in the industry’s total hiring activity in July 2021, registering an increase of 0.11% over the last three-month average share.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations leads by classification in July 2021

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations emerged as the leading IT occupation in North America with a share of 46.27% in July 2021, a 44.44% growth over the previous month. Database and Network Administrators and Architects came in next, claiming a share of 32.28% in July 2021, marking a 286.39% month-on-month increase. In the third place was Miscellaneous Computer Occupations with a share of 15.87% in July 2021, a 91.07% growth from June 2021.

Computer and Information Analysts registered a share of 11.91% in July 2021, a 190.36% rise over the previous month.

Top five construction companies in North America’s IT recruitment activity in July 2021

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average growth of 251.06% in the overall IT recruitment activity of North America’s construction industry during July 2021 over previous month.

CDM Smith posted 424 IT jobs in July 2021 and registered an increase of 10500% over the previous month, followed by Black & Veatch with 369 jobs and a 136.54% growth. CBRE Group with 79 IT jobs and AECOM with 65 jobs, recorded a 1028.57% growth and a 170.83% increase, respectively, while Owens Corning recorded a 41.76% decline with 53 job postings during July 2021.

Country-wise composition of IT hiring in North America’s construction industry

The US commanded a leading presence in the region’s construction industry IT hiring activity with a 91.99% share in July 2021, a 74.09% rise over June 2021. Canada featured next with a 7.07% share, up 9.16% over the previous month. Mexico recorded a 0.94% share, a growth of 35.71% compared with June 2021.

Junior Level job postings dominate in July 2021

Junior Level jobs held a share of 43.7%, up by 15.86% from June 2021. Mid Level positions with a 41.72% share, a growth of 198.23% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Entry Level job ads with 8.5% share, up 10.97% over June 2021, while Senior postings accounted for 6.08%, recording a month-on-month growth of 846.15%.
