Europe's construction & real estate industry saw a rise of 2.02% in overall deal activity during Q1 2020, when compared to the four-quarter average, according to GlobalData’s deals database.

A total of 202 deals worth $25.46bn were announced for the region during Q1 2020, against the last four-quarter average of 198 deals.
Of all the deal types, M&A saw most activity in Q1 2020 with 157, representing a 77.7% share for the region.
In second place was private equity with 34 deals, followed by venture financing deals with 11 transactions, respectively capturing a 16.8% and 5.5% share of the overall deal activity for the quarter.
In terms of value of deals, private equity was the leading category in Europe's construction & real estate industry with $19.65bn, while M&A and venture financing deals totalled $5.52bn and $291.8m, respectively.

The combined value of the top five construction & real estate deals stood at $22.19bn, against the overall value of $25.46bn recorded for the quarter.

1) Advent International, Cinven and RAG-Stiftung's $18.71bn private equity deal with ThyssenKrupp Elevator
2) The $1.29bn acquisition of Godewind Immobilien by Covivio X-Tend
3) Union Investment Group's $864.38m private equity deal with Logistrial Real Estate
4) The $682.11m acquisition of Cityhold Office Partnership by CBRE GIP Medical Office REIT II
5) Deutsche Wohnen's asset transaction with ISARIA Wohnbau for $648.16m.
