HOK-Arup consortium to design Dubai Expo 2020 venue

A consortium of HOK-Arup has been selected to design the Dubai Expo 2020 host venue at 438 acre Dubai Trade Centre-Jebel Ali.

The dedicated, gated 150ha Dubai Expo 2020 area will be surrounded by a residential, hospitality and logistics zone, and will be able to accommodate up to 300,000 visitors.

The HOK-Arup consortium will be responsible for the development of buildings, pavilions, urban designs and engineering guidelines, spatial planning, public realm and landscaping, graphics and way-finding signage, overlay, event operations and facilities management.

In addition, it will provide assistance in transportation and pedestrian modelling and capacity assessment for utilities, infrastructure, security, logistics and environmental design practices.

Planned to be built at the corner of 102 Street and 103 Avenue, the 224m tower will be the tallest in Edmonton, surpassing the Epcor Tower (149m) and the Manulife Tower (146m).

Of the total 62 floors, 26 will be used for office space, while the remaining will house 320 residential suites.

Moinian Group gets $539m loan to build tower in New York

The Moinian Group has secured a $539m loan from the New York State Housing Finance Agency with credit enhancement from the Bank of China and Ullico, for the construction of a new residential tower in Manhattan.

The new tower is planned to be built at 605 West 42nd Street and 11th Avenue, next to Moinian’s 478-unit Atelier condominium building. It is said to be the largest project under construction in Manhattan.

The building has been designed by Goldstein Hill & West Architects and is being constructed by Tishman Construction.

Finbar to build $300m mixed-use tower in South Perth

Australia-based apartment developer Finbar Group plans to build a new $300m mixed-use tower at the South Perth Civic Triangle site.

The 7,206m² South Perth site was sold by JLL on behalf of the City of South Perth for $27.31m to a joint venture firm led by Finbar.

City of South Perth mayor Sue Doherty said: "The sale of the Civic Triangle site is an exciting outcome for the residents of South Perth.

Broadway Malyan to design Chengdu Creative Centre in China

Broadway Malyan has won an international competition to design the Chengdu Creative Centre in Chengdu, Western China.

Broadway Malyan collaborated with Shanghai-based designers East China Architectural Design & Research Institute and environmental engineers Cundall to win the competition, commissioned by the Chengdu Tiantou Real Estate Development Company.

Chengdu Creative Centre is part of the first phase of new urban district construction project being developed in Chengdu.

Miami votes in favour of $430m SkyRise Tower in city

Miami residents have voted in favour of 1,000ft observation tower to be constructed in the middle of downtown.

SkyRise is planned to be build at the end of Bayside Marketplace, an outdoor shopping mall that faces Biscayne Bay. The hairpin-shaped tower will feature an amusement park-style ride, a 550ft bungee jump, a ballroom, moving movie theatre and a nightclub.

The tower’s observation deck, which will be built by Montreal-based gsmprjct°, will be the second highest in the US after the Stratosphere Tower in Las Vegas.

Lend Lease buys land for $545m mixed-use project in London

Lend Lease is set to build a new $545m residential and retail project in South London.

The company has already purchased a site in Deptford, SE8, from City & Provincial Properties for the project.

The move is part of Lend Lease’s plan to expand its London housing, and it has already received planning approval to build more than 3,100 London homes over three years.

Crystal Lagoons to develop $450m real estate project in Thailand

Crystal Lagoons is expanding its presence in South East Asia with the development of a $450m real estate project called MahaSamutr in Hua Hin, Thailand.

The 19.5ha project is part of Thailand-based real estate developer, PACE Development’s, flagship community project.

Designed by Japanese architect Kengo Kuma, the project will have a 7ha lagoon at its centre with crystal turquoise waters surrounded by 90 luxury, bespoke villas with traditional Thai features.
