Seamarq boutique hotel in South Korea completed construction
The former Hyundai Hotel Gyeongpodae in Gangneung, South Korea, completed its reconstruction and is now renamed Seamarq Hotel.

The renovation project began in 2013 and was undertaken in the run up to the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, South Korea.
Richard Meier & Partners designed the 19-floor boutique hotel that comprises two main buildings and supporting facilities on a 52,830m² site.
It is the first project of the architects in the Asian country.

The UNA Department of Housing and Residence Life now manages and operates the new facilities, which are located behind existing Hawthorne and Covington halls on the northern end of UNA’s campus.
DPR completed steel erection on new medical centre in US
DPR Construction (DPR) completed structural steel erection on the new $60m Shriners for Children Medical Centre in Pasadena, California, US.
The company broke ground on the new specialty outpatient medical centre in May 2015. It is expected to open in mid-2017.
DPR has collaborated with CO Architects & SRG to construct the new outpatient care facility that will have an ambulatory surgical centre to accommodate the centre’s clinical, diagnostic, outpatient surgery and rehabilitation units.
As part of the project, two one-storey existing structures will be demolished.
Bjarke Ingels chosen to design new station for New York City Police Department
The New York City Department of Design and Construction (DDC) selected Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) to design a new police station in Melrose.
To be spread over an area of around 43,500ft², the station will see an investment of approximately $50m, ny.curbed.com reported.
The proposed 59ft tall building will be the New York City Police Department’s (NYPD) 40th precinct.
This new station provides spaces for officers to reduce stress and promote physical activity, BIG said in a statement.
Korea-China consortium received building contract for Nakheel’s luxury residential complex in Dubai
Real estate developer Nakheel awarded a AED1.4bn ($380m) contract to a consortium of South Korea’s Ssangyong Engineering & Construction and China State Construction Engineering, to build the three-tower The Palm Gateway residential complex in Dubai.
Located at the entrance of Nakheel’s artificial island Palm Jumeirah, The Palm Gateway will have 1,265 luxury homes, retail, dining, fitness and wellbeing facilities and a beach club.
The luxury homes will include 32 beach-facing apartments and 16 duplex within the existing 14-storey Gateway building, with the rest spread across the three new towers.
Danish architects selected to design world’s largest waste-to-energy plant in China
Shenzhen Energy Environmental Engineering selected the Danish team of Schmidt Hammer Lassen Architects and Gottlieb Paludan Architects to design a waste-to-energy plant in the city of Shenzhen, China.
Claimed to be the largest waste-energy-plant in the world, the facility will process 5,000t of waste a day, more than 30% of the 15,000t waste generated in the city.
The Copenhagen-based architects were selected through an international competition where they won the first prize.
This is the second project for Schmidt Hammer in China this year, after it won an international competition to design a new cultural home for the city of Shanghai, in January.
Haworth Tompkins hired to lead redevelopment of former sports centre in England
London-based firm Haworth Tompkins was hired to lead redevelopment of a former sports centre in West Sussex, England.
The firm will work with LA Architects, a sports architecture studio, for the redevelopment of the former King Alfred sports centre in Hove.
The sports centre is located around two miles from Palace Pier in Brighton.
This project will comprise a leisure centre, community art complex, offices, shops, residential units and a public square, which will link the property with seafront.
3XN received approval to build tallest residential tower in Danish city Aarhus
Aarhus, the second largest city of Denmark, gave approval to 3XN to construct a residential tower that will become the second tallest building after the city’s cathedral.
The city’s municipal council has granted approval for the development of the residential building, La Tour Tower.
The Aarhus Cathedral is 96m tall and the residential tower is just one metre shorter.
The tower will replace the old La Tour hotel on Randersvej, reported Jyllands-Posten.
