Ascentia starts construction on 24-storey tower in US

Ascentia Development Group started construction on the 24-storey Virage luxury condominium tower on Bayshore Boulevard in Tampa, Florida, US.

The company is building Virage in partnership with real estate firm Batson-Cook Development Company (BCDC).

Ascentia Development Group principal Jay Tallman said: “We are off to a remarkably fast start, especially as more people who live in single-family homes are now looking closely at the peace of mind and ease of luxury condominium living.”


Trimble commences expansion of Westminster campus in Colorado, US

Trimble started construction on a second building, expanding its campus in Westminster, Colorado, US.

Expected to accommodate more than 1,100 workers, the employment centre is intended to serve as a central business hub for the firm’s core market segments, such as construction, agriculture and geospatial.

The new facility will be designed to include more co-working areas, a walkway connection between the two buildings and an outdoor amphitheatre.

Khazna Data Centres appoints Laing O’Rourke for expansion project in Dubai, Abu Dhabi

Khazna Data Centres (Khazna) hired Laing O’Rourke to design and build its Pods 4, 5 and 6 in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

Expected to double Khazna’s data centre capacity, the expansion project will cover around 31,000m² across the existing centres in Abu Dhabi and Dubai.

Under the deal, Laing O’Rourke will design and construct a two-storey building for each pod, and be responsible for mechanical, electrical and plumbing works.


Laing O’Rourke to revamp Brent Cross Shopping Centre, UK

Laing O’Rourke was selected as the preferred contractor to carry out the retail extension work of Brent Cross shopping centre in London, UK.

The selection follows a two-stage tender process launched by Brent Cross Shopping Centre co-owners Hammerson and Standard Life Investments for the main construction works, which are estimated to be valued at £700m.

A pre-construction services agreement was also signed between Laing O’Rourke and the joint owners following the latest selection.


Galliford Try wins £52m Coventry student halls contract

Galliford Try’s Building East Midlands business secured a £52.5m contract from The Elite Group to construct a 922-bed student accommodation facility at Paradise Street in Coventry, UK.

The new halls will be constructed across three blocks of three, 12 and 14 storeys on the location of a previous garage close to the city centre, with an additional two low-rise house blocks.

A recreational area for the students will be built, in addition to office and maintenance facilities for the proposed management company AXO Student Living.


EGP-led consortium selected as preferred bidder for 100MW PV plant in Ethiopia

A consortium led by Enel Green Power (EGP) was selected as the preferred bidder to develop a 100MW photovoltaic (PV) solar project in Metehara, Ethiopia.

The selection follows a solar tender issued by local utility Ethiopian Electric Power (EEP) as part of the Ethiopian Government’s Growth and Transformation Plan (GTP 2).

Comprising infrastructure company Orchid Business Group, the consortium has secured the right to develop, build, and operate the proposed facility. A sum of $120m is expected to be invested by the EGP-led consortium to construct the plant, which is scheduled to enter operation by 2019.


CEMEX to supply building blocks for new Chase Center in San Francisco, US

Mexico-based building materials company CEMEX received a contract to supply building blocks for the new Chase Center in San Francisco, US.

The facility is set to open by the 2019 National Basketball Association (NBA) season, and will serve as the future home of the American basketball team Golden State Warriors.

The company is expected to provide more than 76,000m³ ready-mix concrete for the new 18,000-seat sports and entertainment complex.

BAM Properties and Hermes Investment Management to build Capital Square in Edinburgh

BAM Properties and Hermes Investment Management have plans to develop offices in Edinburgh, Scotland.

Following completion, Capital Square will be a premier 122,000ft², eight-floor office development and will feature an underground car park.

Situated in the city’s Exchange business district, between Morrison Street and Lothian Road, the development is located close to Haymarket Station and other transport links, as well as several local amenities.


Howard Hughes Corporation to build baseball stadium in Las Vegas

The Howard Hughes Corporation is to develop and construct a baseball stadium in Downtown Summerlin shopping centre in Las Vegas, Nevada, US.

To be named the Las Vegas Ballpark, the 10,000 capacity stadium will cover around eight acres just south of City National Arena, the National Hockey League practice facility for the Vegas Golden Knights.

The stadium will be the future home of the city’s professional baseball team, Las Vegas 51s, a member of the Pacific Coast League (PCL) and an affiliate of the New York Mets.
