Australia’s construction industry registered a 25.3% drop in IT hiring activity in December 2021 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics database.

The industry’s overall hiring is decreased by 14.06% in December 2021 when compared with November 2021.

Out of the construction industry’s total hiring activity, IT jobs claimed a 3.3% share in December 2021, recording a decrease of 1.08% over the last three-month average share.

Top five job classifications in Australia’s construction industry’s IT recruitment activity in December 2021

Out of the total job titles, the top five roles commanded a 97.12% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of Australia’s construction industry in December 2021.

1) Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers recorded a share of 44.23% in December 2021, registering a 41.03% decline over the previous month.

2) Database and Network Administrators and Architects claimed a 23.08% share, a decrease of 27.27% over the previous month.

3) Miscellaneous Computer Occupations held a share of 20.19%, registering a 46.15% decline from November 2021.

4) Computer and Information Analysts captured a share of 5.77%, down 25% over the previous month.

Top five construction companies in Australia’s IT recruitment activity in December 2021

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, have accounted for a combined average decline of 23.38% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of Australia’s construction industry during December 2021 over November 2021.

Monadelphous Group posted 40 IT jobs in December 2021 and registered a drop of 35.48% over the previous month, followed by Babcock International Group with 6 jobs and a 500% growth. Downer EDI with 5 IT jobs and Rockwell Automation with 4 jobs, recorded a 37.5% decline and a flat growth, respectively, while Honeywell International recorded a decline of 33.33% with 4 job postings during December 2021.

Junior Level job postings dominate in December 2021

Junior Level jobs held a share of 68.27%, down by 47.01% from November 2021. Mid Level positions with a 24.04% share, registered a decline of 16.67% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Entry Level job ads with 6.73% share, down 66.67% over November 2021, while Senior postings accounted for 0.96%, recording a month-on-month flat growth.
