The global construction industry noticed a 4.7% drop in IT hiring activity in March 2022 over the previous month, led by Honeywell International’s 14.73% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.

The construction industry’s overall hiring activity increased 3.49% when compared with February 2022.

Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 5.39% share of the global construction industry’s hiring activity in March 2022, down 0.38% over the last three-month average share.

According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of March 2022 were 1.23% lower when compared with the previous month.

The decrease was a result of 3.08% higher job postings as compared to job closures during the month.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers drive construction IT hiring activity

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 55.58% emerged as the top IT occupation in the construction hiring activity in March 2022, a 2.53% growth over the previous month. Database and Network Administrators and Architects came in second with a share of 14.11% in March 2022, down 2.75% over the previous month.

The other prominent IT roles include Miscellaneous Computer Occupations with an 11.68% share in March 2022, a decline of 5.08% over the previous month, and Computer and Information Analysts with a 10.47% share in March 2022 and a rise of 57.72% over February 2022.

Top five construction companies by recruitment activity in March 2022

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average growth of 30.73% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global construction industry during March 2022 over February 2022.

Honeywell International posted 1,107 IT jobs in March 2022 and registered a rise of 73.78% over the previous month, followed by Black & Veatch with 313 jobs and a 31.36% decline. CDM Smith with 294 IT jobs and Komatsu with 269 jobs, recorded a 1370% growth and a 28.65% drop, respectively, while Cummins recorded a 10.8% rise with 195 job postings during March 2022.

Regional composition of IT hiring in construction industry

North America emerged as the leading region in the global construction IT hiring activity in March 2022 with a 57.31% share, which marked a 6.37% rise over the previous month.

Europe stood next with 21.86%, registering a 6.69% month-on-month growth. Asia-Pacific was the third leading region with a 19.45% share and a 4.44% drop over February 2022.

In the fourth place was South & Central America with a share of 0.88% and a month-on-month drop of 5.71%. Middle East & Africa stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 0.51%, registering a 20.83% decrease over the previous month.
