The global construction industry noticed a 1.1% rise in IT hiring activity in October 2021 over the previous month, led by Black & Veatch’s 9.21% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.

The construction industry’s overall hiring activity increased 1.34% when compared with September 2021.

Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 4.96% share of the global construction industry’s hiring activity in October 2021, down 0.03% over the last three-month average share.

According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of October 2021 were 1.24% lower when compared with the previous month.

The decrease was a result of 2.6% higher job postings as compared to job closures during the month.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers drive construction IT hiring activity

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 54.03% emerged as the top IT occupation in the construction hiring activity in October 2021, a 9.99% decline over the previous month. Database and Network Administrators and Architects came in second with a share of 18.17% in October 2021, up 46.91% over the previous month.

The other prominent IT roles include Miscellaneous Computer Occupations with a 9.89% share in October 2021, a decline of 12.08% over the previous month, and Computer and Information Analysts with an 8.46% share in October 2021 and a rise of 21.49% over September 2021.

Top five construction companies by recruitment activity in October 2021

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average growth of 9.43% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global construction industry during October 2021 over September 2021.

Black & Veatch posted 603 IT jobs in October 2021 and registered a rise of 90.22% over the previous month, followed by Honeywell International with 571 jobs and a 34.06% decline. Johnson Controls International with 346 IT jobs and General Electric with 336 jobs, recorded a 6.13% growth and a 17.24% drop, respectively, while ABB recorded a 1506.25% rise with 257 job postings during October 2021.

Regional composition of IT hiring in construction industry

North America emerged as the leading region in the global construction IT hiring activity in October 2021 with a 57.66% share, which marked a 2.97% rise over the previous month.

Asia-Pacific stood next with 20.41%, registering a 19.12% month-on-month decline. Europe was the third leading region with a 20.26% share and an 18.06% rise over September 2021.

In the fourth place was Middle East & Africa with a share of 0.73% and a month-on-month drop of 17.24%. South & Central America stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 0.72%, registering a 27.03% increase over the previous month.
