The global construction industry noticed a 15.3% rise in IT hiring activity in February 2021 over the previous month, led by China Merchants Property Operation & Service’s 8.32% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.

The construction industry’s overall hiring activity increased 6.71% when compared with January 2021.

Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 2.68% share of the global construction industry’s hiring activity in February 2021, up 0.38% over the last three-month average share.

According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of February 2021 were 3.29% higher compared with the previous month.

The increase was a result of 5.23% lower job postings as compared to job closures during the month.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers drive construction IT hiring activity

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 39.74% emerged as the top IT occupation in the construction hiring activity in February 2021, a 14.16% increase over the previous month. Database and Network Administrators and Architects came in second with a share of 21.56% in February 2021, up 14.11% over the previous month.

The other prominent IT roles include Miscellaneous Computer Occupations with a 15.05% share in February 2021, increase of 24.25% over the previous month, and Computer and Information Analysts with a 10.85% share in February 2021 and rise of 9.09% over January 2021.

Top five construction companies by recruitment activity in February 2021

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average increase of 43.51% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global construction industry during February 2021 over January 2021.

China Merchants Property Operation & Service posted 184 IT jobs in February 2021 and registered a rise of 21.05% over the previous month, followed by Peter Brett Associates with 174 jobs and a 1.75% rise. Black & Veatch with 162 IT jobs and Stantec with 91 jobs, recorded an 8000% increase and a 1.11% growth, respectively, while Jones Lang LaSalle recorded a 19.05% growth with 75 job postings during February 2021.

Regional composition of IT hiring in construction industry

North America emerged as the leading region in the global construction IT hiring activity in February 2021 with a 54.57% share, which marked a 13.65% growth over the previous month.

Europe stood next with 23.46%, registering a 20.98% month-on-month increase. Asia-Pacific was the third leading region with a 21.2% share and a 17.84% rise over January 2021.

In the fourth place was Middle East & Africa with a share of 0.5% and a month-on-month drop of 45%. South & Central America stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 0.27%, registering a 53.85% drop over the previous month.
