The global construction industry noticed a 7.flat growth in IT hiring activity in April 2021 over the previous month, led by Black & Veatch’s 11.76% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.

The construction industry’s overall hiring activity declined 1.57% when compared with March 2021.

Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 3.28% share of the global construction industry’s hiring activity in April 2021, up 0.19% over the last three-month average share.

According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of April 2021 were 6.93% higher compared with the previous month.

The increase was a result of 10.46% lower job postings as compared to job closures during the month.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers drive construction IT hiring activity

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 46.97% emerged as the top IT occupation in the construction hiring activity in April 2021, a 1.93% decline over the previous month. Database and Network Administrators and Architects came in second with a share of 24.76% in April 2021, up 43.74% over the previous month.

The other prominent IT roles include Miscellaneous Computer Occupations with a 12.24% share in April 2021, an increase of 3.07% over the previous month, and Computer and Information Analysts with an 8.1% share in April 2021 and rise of 18.93% over March 2021.

 

Top five construction companies by recruitment activity in April 2021

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average an increase of 53.03% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global construction industry during April 2021 over March 2021.

Black & Veatch posted 420 IT jobs in April 2021 and registered a rise of 61.54% over the previous month, followed by China Merchants Property Operation & Service with 248 jobs and a 21.02% decline. Peter Brett Associates with 227 IT jobs and Stantec with 200 jobs, recorded a 266.13% an increase and a 257.14% growth, respectively, while Zillow Group recorded a 25.76% growth with 166 job postings during April 2021.

Regional composition of IT hiring in construction industry

North America emerged as the leading region in the global construction IT hiring activity in April 2021 with a 57.34% share, which marked a 16.64% growth over the previous month.

Europe stood next with 23.28%, registering a 14.94% month-on-month an increase.Asia-Pacific was the third leading region with an 18.68% share and a 13.6% decline over March 2021.

In the fourth place was Middle East & Africa with a share of 0.39% and a month-on-month growth of 40%. South & Central America stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 0.31%, registering a 21.43% drop over the previous month.
