The global consumer industry noticed a 4.3% drop in IT hiring activity in September 2021 over the previous month, led by Reckitt Benckiser Group’s 4.68% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.

The consumer industry’s overall hiring activity increased 2.96% when compared with August 2021.

Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 2.99% share of the global consumer industry’s hiring activity in September 2021, down 0.24% over the last three-month average share.

According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of September 2021 were 5.42% lower when compared with the previous month.

The decrease was a result of 11.54% higher job postings as compared to job closures during the month.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers drive consumer IT hiring activity

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 55.04% emerged as the top IT occupation in the consumer hiring activity in September 2021, a 12.2% decline over the previous month. Miscellaneous Computer Occupations came in second with a share of 16.48% in September 2021, down 25.16% over the previous month.

The other prominent IT roles include Database and Network Administrators and Architects with a 14.62% share in September 2021, a decline of 18.62% over the previous month, and Computer and Information Analysts with a 7.64% share in September 2021 and a drop of 49.53% over August 2021.

Top five consumer companies by recruitment activity in September 2021

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average decline of 25.58% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global consumer industry during September 2021 over August 2021.

Reckitt Benckiser Group posted 98 IT jobs in September 2021 and registered a drop of 28.47% over the previous month, followed by Haier Group with 97 jobs and a 62.98% decline. Carrier Global with 92 IT jobs and Fujitsu General with 76 jobs, recorded an 119.05% growth and a 16.92% rise, respectively, while The Procter & Gamble recorded a flat growth with 53 job postings during September 2021.

Regional composition of IT hiring in consumer industry

North America emerged as the leading region in the global consumer IT hiring activity in September 2021 with a 47.54% share, which marked a 25.13% drop over the previous month.

Europe stood next with 30.67%, registering a 9.96% month-on-month decline. Asia-Pacific was the third leading region with an 18.16% share and a 21.65% drop over August 2021.

In the fourth place was South & Central America with a share of 2.39% and a month-on-month drop of 10.71%. Middle East & Africa stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 1.19%, registering a 7.41% decrease over the previous month.
