The five largest construction projects initiated in South and Central America in Q2 2022

Here are the five largest construction projects initiated in South and Central America during Q2 2022, according to GlobalData’s construction projects database.

1. Pedernales Tourism Development – $2,245m

The project involves the construction of a port, airport, water infrastructure and hotels on a 380ha site area in Cabo Rojo, Pedernales, Dominican Republic.

Construction work started in Q2 2022 and is expected to be completed in Q4 2030.

The objective of the project is to generate economic activity, development of highways, electricity works and an airport, among others.

2. Vista Pacifico Liquified Natural Gas Plant – $2,000m

The project involves the construction of an LNG export terminal on 150ha in the Municipality Of Ahome, Topolobampo, Sinaloa, Mexico.

Construction work commenced in Q2 2022 and is expected to finish in Q4 2025.

The objective of the project is to export to nations with which the US has free trade agreements (FTA). It aims to increase natural gas production in the Rockies region.

3. Puerto Penasco Solar Park 1000 MW – $1,644m

The project involves the construction of a solar power plant on 2,000ha area in Puerto Penasco, Sonora, Mexico.

Construction work started in Q2 2022 and is forecast to complete in Q4 2027.

The objective of the project is to serve 4 million inhabitants of Sonora and some areas of Baja California.

4. Regiotram de Occidente Development – $491m

The project involves the construction of a 40km tram-line in Bogota, Colombia.

Construction work commenced in Q2 2022 and is expected to be completed in Q4 2026.

The purpose of the project is to meet the growing transportation requirements in the region. The project aims to unite the municipalities of the Sabana de Occidente region (Facatativa, Mosquera, Funza, and Madrid) with the center of the Colombian capital (Bogota).

5. Guadalajara to Tlajomulco Light Rail Line Development – $453m

The project involves the construction of a light rail line between Guadalajara and Tlajomulco in Jalisco, Mexico.

Construction work started in Q2 2022 and is expected to be completed in Q2 2024.

The project aims to improve transportation facilities.
