Five largest construction projects initiated in Australia in Q2 2022

Here are the five largest construction projects initiated in Australia during Q2 2022, according to GlobalData’s construction projects database.

1. Melbourne Suburban Rail Loop – $36,666m

The project involves the construction of a 90km rail line between Cheltenham and Werribee via Melbourne Airport in Melbourne, Victoria.

Construction work started in Q2 2022 and is expected to be completed in Q4 2053.

The project aims to allow commuters to travel between suburbs without needing to come into the city. It will connect every major rail line from the Frankston line to the Werribee line, making it quicker and easier to get to Melbourne’s major health, education, and employment centers.

2. MacIntyre Wind Farm 1026 MW – $1,414m

The project involves the construction of a 1,026MW wind farm on 36,000ha of land in Stanthorpe, Queensland.

Construction work commenced in Q2 2022 and is expected to finish in Q4 2024.

The project site is located approximately 50km south-west of Warwick and 60km south-east of Millmerran across Goondiwindi and Southern Downs Regional Council.

3. Frankston Hospital Redevelopment – $776m

The project involves the redevelopment of an existing hospital comprising a 120-bed facilities in Victoria.

Construction work started in Q2 2022 and is forecast to complete in Q4 2025.

The aim of the project is to provide better healthcare facilities in the local community and will generate up to 1,700 jobs at the peak of construction.

4. Olive Downs Project – $745m

The project involves the development of an open-cut coal mine with a production capacity of 15 million tons per annum of coking coal near Moranbah, Queensland.

Construction work commenced in Q2 2022 and is expected to be completed in Q4 2033.

The project aims to generate substantial economic benefits for the State of Queensland. It is a Coordinated Project under the Queensland State Development Act.

5. Waterloo Metro Quarter Development – $650m

The project involves the construction of a mixed-use community in Sydney, New South Wales.

Construction work started in Q2 2022 and is expected to be completed in Q4 2024.

The project aims to provide better residential, commercial, and accommodation facilities in the region.
