Here are Europe’s five largest wind energy construction projects that were initiated in Q3 2021, according to GlobalData’s construction projects database.
1. Alajarvi Wind Farm 216MW – $225m
The project involves the construction of a wind farm consisting of around 36 turbines with a combined nominal capacity of 216MW in Alajärvi, Southern Ostrobothnia, Finland.
Construction work started in Q3 2021 and is expected to be completed in Q4 2023.
2. PI Wind Park 175 MW – $170m
The project involves the construction of the PI wind park with a combined electricity generation capacity of 175MW in the provinces of Valladolid and Palencia, Castilla and Leon, Spain.
Construction work commenced in Q3 2021 and is expected to finish in Q2 2023.
The project’s aim is to meet the growing requirements of electricity in the region and to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions in the region.
3. Longhill Burn Wind Farm 50 MW – $160m
Longhill Burn project involves the construction of a 50MW wind farm in Edinburgh, the UK.
Construction work started in Q3 2021 and is forecast to complete in Q4 2022.
The project is estimated to reduce greenhouse emissions by over 2.6 million metric tons during its lifetime, equivalent to that produced by over 550,000 passenger vehicles driven for a year. It will generate enough electricity to power over 440,000 homes a year.
4. Buheii Wind Farm 79.8 MW – $110m
The project involves the construction of a 79.8MW wind farm in Kvinesdal, Agder County, Norway.
Construction work commenced in Q3 2021 and is expected to be completed in Q4 2023.
The project aims to produce enough low-carbon electricity to replace an estimated 15,000 tones of CO2e emissions every year. Over the lifetime of the project, it will help reduce emissions by 375 kt CO2e, supporting Norway in its goal of becoming a ‘low emission society by 2050 and achieve ‘climate neutrality by 2030. It will create between 80–100 jobs.
5. Bogoslovec Wind Farm 36 MW – $73m
The Bogoslovec project involves the construction of a 36MW wind farm on 70ha of land in Sveti Nikole Municipality, North Macedonia.
Construction work started in Q3 2021 and is expected to be completed in Q1 2023.
The project aims to generate electricity to supply over 20,000 households, resulting in 80,000 tons of avoided CO2 emissions annually.
