Five largest construction projects initiated in Germany in Q3 2021

Here are the five largest construction projects initiated in Germany during Q3 2021, according to GlobalData’s construction projects database.

1. Digital Park Fechenheim – $1,179m

The project involves the construction of the Digital Park Fechenheim on a 10.7ha area, with a gross floor area of 100,000m2 in Frankfurt-Fechenheim, Hesse, Germany.

Construction work started in Q3 2021 and is expected to be completed in Q4 2028.

The project aims to develop a digital park and to expand the existing Neckermann campus. The development plan includes removal of safety fences in several places for aesthetic urban planning reasons.

2. Berlin Data Center Campus (BER1) – $500m

The project involves the construction of the Berlin Data Center Campus (BER1) on a 5ha area, with a gross floor area of 24,000m2 in Brandenburg Park, near Berlin, Germany.

Construction work commenced in Q3 2021 and is expected to complete in Q4 2025.

The project aims to provide an attractive range of industry-leading data center space for Hyperscales, cloud providers, and large companies in a strategically interesting location.

3. Lörrach Central Hospital campus Development – $418m

The project involves the construction of the Central Hospital campus with a gross floor area of 47,000m2 in Lörrach, Baden-Wuerttemberg, Germany.

Construction work started in Q3 2021 and is forecast to complete in Q4 2025.

The project aims to build a center for mental health and a medical department store with a parking garage.

4. Kieler Förde Shipbuilding Facility Development – $295m

The project involves the construction of the shipbuilding facilities with a gross floor area of 15,390m2 in Kieler Förde, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany.

Construction work commenced in Q3 2021 and is expected to be completed in Q2 2023.

The project aims to increase its production capacity for submarine construction from mid 2023.

5. Markisches Zentrum Redevelopment – $234m

The project involves the redevelopment of the Märkische Zentrum complex in Berlin, Germany.

Construction work started in Q3 2021 and is expected to be completed in Q4 2023.

The property was built in the 1960s, and has been modernized and extended several times over the past decades.
