Five largest construction projects initiated in Germany in Q3 2022

Here are the five largest construction projects initiated in Germany during Q3 2022, according to GlobalData’s construction projects database.

1. An der Goldgrube BioNTech Campus Development – $550m

The project involves the construction of the BioNTech Campus on a 40,000m2 area in Mainz, Rheinland-Pfalz.

Construction work started in Q3 2022 and is expected to be completed in Q4 2025.

The project aims to create additional research and administration facilities for 2,000 employees.

2. Brunsbuettel LNG Terminal – $525m

The project involves the construction of an LNG terminal in Brunsbüttel, Schleswig-Holstein.

Construction work commenced in Q3 2022 and is expected to finish in Q2 2026.

Brunsbüttel, located at the intersection of Elbe/Kiel Canal, is a strategically ideal location for the clustering of ships with LNG as an alternative fuel.

3. The LNG Wilhelmshaven Terminal: Floating Storage Regasification Unit (FSRU) – $441m

The project involves the construction of the LNG Wilhelmshaven terminal and a Floating Storage Regasification Unit (FSRU) in Wilhelmshaven, Lower Saxony.

Construction work started in Q3 2022 and is forecast to complete in Q4 2023.

The project aims to provide a floating storage and regasification unit and accelerate the use of Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) as an energy source for Germany. It intends to develop a user-friendly technical interface and commercial products for small-scale LNG players and reduce CO2 and pollutant emissions.

4. Duisburg Railway Station Renovation – $287m

The project involves the renovation of the Duisburg railway station in North Rhine-Westphalia.

Construction work commenced in Q3 2022 and is expected to be completed in Q4 2028.

The objective of the project is to provide modern and attractive infrastructure facilities for passengers.

5. B 5 Highway Tönning-Husum Expansion – $238m

The project involves the expansion of a 18km two-lane highway into three-lane highway between Tönning and Husum on B 5 highway in Schleswig-Holstein.

Construction work started in Q3 2022 and is expected to be completed in Q4 2025.

The aim of the project is to address traffic congestion on the section of the B 5 highway between Tönning and Husum.
