Five largest construction projects initiated in Malaysia in Q2 2022

Here are the five largest construction projects initiated in Malaysia during Q2 2022, according to GlobalData’s construction projects database.

1. Nenggiri Hydroelectric Power Plant 300 MW – $1,201m

The project involves the construction of a 300MW hydroelectric power plant in Nenggiri, Kelantan.

Construction work started in Q2 2022 and is expected to be completed in Q2 2026.

The aim of the project is to address electricity shortages and enable the delivery of reliable energy across the country.

2. Nusajaya Tech Park Data Center Campus – $316m

The project involves the construction of a 22,500m2 data center with a 54MW capacity in Johor.

Construction work commenced in Q2 2022 and is expected to finish in Q3 2026.

The project aims to support digital transformation and making Johor’s strategic location as a hub for regional growth.

3. Iskandar Data Center – $300m

The project involves the construction of a 500MW solar-powered data center on 111ha of land in Iskandar, Johor.

Construction work started in Q2 2022 and is forecast to complete in Q4 2032.

The project aims to offer excellent diversity in power and connectivity. It will be the first data center in the region to be powered by solar energy.

4. Gelang Patah Insulin Management Device Manufacturing Facility – $200m

The project includes the construction of a 37,161m2 insulin management device manufacturing plant in Johor.

Construction work commenced in Q2 2022 and is expected to be completed in Q3 2024.

The aim of the project is to support the company’s fast-paced growth, robust innovation pipeline, and global expansion. It will create 500 jobs.

5. Goodwood Residence Mixed-Use Complex – $200m

The project involves the construction of a mixed-use complex in Sungai Ara, Penang.

Construction work started in Q2 2022 and is expected to be completed in Q4 2024.

The project aims to provide better residential facilities and commercial facilities in the region.
