Turkish contractor Ant Yapi UK has been appointed by developer Gustavia to refurbish the Leas Pavilion in Folkestone, UK.
Constructed in 1902, the Leas Pavilion building operated as a bowling alley, cinema, tearoom, theatre, nightclub, and snooker hall. It has fallen into disrepair since its closure in 2007.

The contractor plans to commence work on the project this month.
Upon completion of the project, the building will be refurbished into a nine-storey apartment block, which will feature 91 sea view apartments.
Work on the restoration project will include the replenishment, removal, and reassembly of many historical elements in the building to match the original interior and exterior aesthetic of the pavilion.

The preservation work will initially focus on the outer façade of the pavilion, where each stone will be removed and transported off-site for refurbishment and cleaning.

Moulds and samples will be taken from the ceilings, walls, and arches around column crowns for recreating the original interior design of building.
Gustavia development director Selahattin Yalcin said: “We are delighted to receive final pre-commencement permissions for this incredibly exciting project for Folkestone.
“It’s taken 18 months of hard work to get to this stage. Every step we’ve taken has been in conjunction with the relevant council authorities and our appointed architect Hollaway, structural engineer Manhire, and services engineer Hoare Lea.”
The restoration work alone on the pavilion is estimated to cost approximately £4m.
Architect Hollaway and Gustavia worked together for the site redevelopment while retaining the pavilion.
